FAQs

How do I access BASE Psychology?

If you have an injury that is covered by ACC your Case Manager will be required to contact BASE Psychology directly and make an official referral on your behalf.  Once the referral is received you will be contacted so that an appointment can be arranged.

If your injury is not covered by ACC and you would like to refer yourself privately please contact BASE Psychology directly to discuss your needs.

Can I bring a support person?

Yes. You are more than welcome to have a family member or friend come with you to any meetings. It is often very helpful to have an additional perspective on how you have been managing since your injury.

For a Neuropsychological Assessment your support person is welcome to stay for the initial interview, however, cognitive testing is only able to be conducted 1:1 as the presence of a third party can have an impact on the person being tested.

How long does a neuropsychological assessment take?

A Neuropsychological Assessment will generally take approximately three to four hours of face to face time to complete.  If needed your appointment can be split across two sessions. The results are then analysed and a feedback session will be arranged either in person or by phone to advise you of the results and recommendations will be discussed in full.

How long does a clinical psychology assessment take?

An initial Clinical Psychology assessment takes between 60-90 minutes.

How long is a therapy session?

Follow-up therapy sessions are typically between 50-60 minutes duration.

How long will therapy take?

The process and length of therapy input will be determined through discussions with you and your therapist.

Do I get a copy of reports written about me?

For ACC claimants a copy of your report is sent directly to the referrer, usually your ACC Case Manager, and then this will be sent on to you by ACC.  If you do not receive a copy of your report you can make an official request for your health information from Base Psychology and the report will be forwarded to you.

For non-ACC clients any reports will be provided to you as soon as possible after your assessment.

Who has access to this information?

The person who referred you for the assessment receives a copy of the report as they are funding the assessment/treatment.

The report can also be provided to others with your express permission.  Other information about your contact with Base Psychology remains confidential.

Do you work with children?

BASE Psychology works with adults (16 years and over).

Paediatric Neuropsychology requires a different set of expertise and test materials and we can recommend colleagues who specialise in working with children, if required.
