CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

An initial psychology assessment will review any areas of difficulty you may be experiencing and identify specific goals for therapy, if required. Therapy is about developing a greater understanding of issues or challenges that might be affecting you.  Our approach is to assist you to develop and learn new solutions for these difficulties using your own resources, new tools and accessing your natural support systems.

Therapy can include identifying issues with which you may be struggling with and suggestions for dealing with these issues day to day.   You may be asked to complete practical tasks as experiments to approach a problem differently or you may be given a piece of reading to build your knowledge base.  You will often be asked a series of questions about a particular problem or presented a different way of viewing the situation and how you may have dealt with it.  You may also be asked to consider options of how you may be able to deal with it differently in the future.

Therapy session frequency is negotiated with you at the first meeting.  Often sessions are scheduled for one hour per week initially with reduction as you develop your confidence in the changes you are making.
